Peter's wait for a start at the Constellation Senior Players Championship has been rewarded and on Thursday he will tee it up in the event at the Exmoor Country Club in Highland Park in the north of Chicago, Illinois.

Peter will play with fellow former PGA Tour players Michael Bradley and Fran Quiin in the opening round of the US$2.8 million event.

The Exmoor Golf Club's layout is a classic and traditional Donald Ross designed layout from the golden era of design.

The field includes eleven former major championship winners including Bernhard Langer, Corey Pavin, Hale Iriwn and Mark O'Meara.

Peter hopeful of a start at the Senior Players Championship

Thursday, 05 July 2018

With the prospect of a start at next week's Constellation Senior Players Championship on the Champions Tour in the US now a strong possibility, Peter has withdrawn his entry from a European Senior Tour event in Switzerland to focus his attention on one of the Champions Tour's flagship events at the Exmoor Country Club in Highland Park in the north of Chicago in Illinois.

Initially Peter was keen to play events in Europe ahead of a return to the Senior Open Championship this year at St Andrews on July 26th but when the chance to play a Champions Tour event of such standing opened up he has made the decision to play in the US and then look at what opportunities might develop from there.

Those opportunities might include starts in one or two PGA Tour events although he is eligible for the Senior Open Championship and will play there also.

Peter will find out on Saturday morning Australian time exactly where he stands in regard to a Seniors Players Championship start but is keen to get the ball rolling especially with the continuity of play that is available over the next few weeks.

Impressive week for Peter at Senior PGA Championship

Peter has finished 23rd at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at the Harbor Shores layout in Benton Harbour in Michigan, a final round of 69 improving him a few places on the final day.

It was an overall impressive performance given Peter has not played a competitve tournament since the New Zealand Open in early March.

Peter shared the lead after an opening round 66 then was still in the mix heading into the weekend before a horror start to his third round cost him the opportunity to contend over the final 36 holes.

Peter will now return home and consider his upcoming options which are likely to include a tournament or two on the European Senior Tour ahead of a start at the Senior Open Championship at St Andrews an event in which he finished 3rd last year.

"Not a bad week considering," said Peter before heading home. "I was definitely a bit rusty but I think I did ok. Doesn't open any doors really but it did remind me there is still an opportunity to do something with my game.

"I enjoyed playing and the course was pretty good. Now I will consider my options."
