Peter's great late rally in California
Written by Bruce Young
Tuesday, 26 November 2013

Peter has returned to Sydney to play this week's Australian Open Championship, the two time champion delighted by his late rally at Stage Two of Web.Com Tour qualifying last week in California.

Peter recovered from a slow start on the final day of four at the Bear Creek Country Club in Murietta in California to earn one of the places given out to the leading twenty players and ties at his venue, for Final Stage qualifying in mid December.

"Once i got to four over in what were tough conditions on the final day I thought my chances had effectively gone," said Peter at Royal Sydney today.  "I can recall thinking about having missed qualifying previously in Panama City and the long drive back to Oralndo which is about a seven hour drive but it seemed much longer. I was beginning to wonder how the flight back to Australia was going to feel when I was four over with just a few holes to play. I was right on the number at that stage and knew I needed to do something."

Peter then proceeded to hole his bunker shot at the 15th for birdie. "The bunker I was in was so deep I could hardly see the top of the flag never mind the bottom of it. I hit this shot and while I did not see it go in it was great to hear it had.

"I then saved par at the next from another bunker and got up and down after missing the green at the next. I thought I needed par at worst at the last and when I dove it in the fairway bunker I figured I was up against it. I had something like 170 yards from the bunker across water to a shallow green. One mistake and I was gone.

"When it was in the air I did not know where it was going to come down as it was so windy. Would it come down in the water or be long?

"It landed 6 feet from the hole and I was able to make the putt to make it by two in the end as those behind us on the golf course were also battling with the conditions.

"It is great to be back here knowing that I have gotten through and can attempt the Final Stage in two weeks time.

"I feel I am beginning to play a lot better so am looking forward to this week and to the Final Stage which begins on December 12th in California.

"At the Final Stage there are 45 cards available and if I can secure one of those and earn some money early on in the season then I will benefit from the re-rank.

"I have played Royal Sydney ok. I made a good start in 2008 before finishing well back and in 2006 finished around 10th. I have played quite a bit here over the years and hopefully things can continue to improve."

Peter has an afternoon tee time on day one when he will play with Nick O'Hern and John Senden.

Peter makes it to Final Stage

Peter has made it through to the Final Stage of qualifying for the Web.Com Tour following the completion of Stage Two at his venue in California this morning.

It was touch and go however, Peter to the point where he may have missed out before a late rally with two birdies in his final four holes saw him finish in a share of 14th position.

It was a crucial round of golf for Peter as it keeps his hopes of playing with full status on the Web.Com Tour in 2014 and will all but assure him of some status there.

He will now play the Final Stage over 108 holes in La Quinta in California beginning on December 12th but in between time will head back to Australia to play the Australian Open at Royal Sydney.

Peter doing well in California

Thursday, 21 November 2013

Peter is in a share of 7th position after 36 holes of Web.Com Tour qualifying at the Bear Creek Golf Club in Murietta in California after a second round of 68.

Peter was much better placed with two holes to go however, bogeys at the 17th and 18th costing him the chance of  being near the lead but he is well enough placed with 36 holes to play.

The leading twenty players advance to the Final Stage which is vital for Peter in order that he can be playing the Web.Com Tour next season.
