A reasonable week ahead of Senior Tour debut
Written by Bruce Young
Tuesday, 18 July 2017

The Utah Classic in Farmington was a low scoring affair and despite two very encouraging middle rounds of 65 Peter got lost in the rush on Sunday and slipped from a share of 16th through 54 holes to a final placing of 51st even though his final round of even par was not all that bad.

Peter has certainly shown encouraging signs ahead of his senior debut next week at the Senior Open Championship in Wales however and as he heads off to play that event and the Scottish Senior Open the following week at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick.

Peter turned 50 on July 17th and is now eligible to play European Senior Tour events but his debut will be a major championship in senior golf and what a place to start at Royal Porthcawl in Southern Wales.

A few days to prepare at one of the TPC courses in the US before heading for Wales is what Peter has in mind.

Peter has played his way back into the tournament at the Web.Com Tour's Utah Championship in Farmington, a second round of 65 improving him 69  positions and, while still back in 39th position and nine shots from the leader, the impressive round comes at a good time for him.

Peter is playing his last Web.Com Tour event before two events on the European Senior Tour including the Senior Open and Senior Scottish Open Championships and four birdies in his last six holes today saw him move form well outside the cutline to a place in the weekend field.

The round continues recent good play and as he heads into the weekend he wil be keen to finish off his current US campaign in style ahead of a his debut in senior golf.

Peter has finished the LECOM Health Challenge in Findley Lake in New York with a round of 67 to finish 41st and while his finishing position might not be earth shattering, that he has continued his improved form of recent weeks is encouraging given he has just one more event before heading to his debut in senior golf at the Senior Open Championship in Wales on July 27th.

Peter recorded six birdies in today's final round and as he heads for this coming week's Web.Com Tour event in Farmington in Utah he is continuing the improvement he has shown in recent weeks.

Disappointing Sunday but improvement continues

Sunday was not a particularly good day for Peter at the Nashville Open but there continues to be encouraging signs ahead of his debut in senior golf at the Senior Open Championship at Royal Porthcawl in Wales on July 27th.

A final round of 73 on the low scoring layout at the Nashville Golf and Athletic Club seeing him slip from a share of 4th to 25th.

Peter remained on the edge of contention through the opening nine holes but a double bogey at the 10th proved too much to recover from.

Earlier in the week however Peter has put himself in position in the early rounds being in 4th position through 36 and 54 holes and so in addition to his very good round of 64 two weeks ago things are looking promising.

Peter will now play this week's Peek'n Peak Resort at Findley Lake in New York before an event in Utah the following week.

Peter looking to build on recent improvement in Nashville

Peter is in Nashville in Texas this week for the Nashville Golf Open and the Nashville Golf and Athletic Club where he will look to build on his recent improvement which has included two consecutive cuts made in Kansas and Illinois.

Peter made the cut in this event last year although he bookended the tournament with rounds of 74 to finish 50th.

With only a couple of events remaining before he heads to Britain for the Senior British Open and Senior Scottish Open, Peter will be keen to perform well to ensure that he primed for his Senior Tour debut at the Open Championship at Royal Porthcawl beginning on July 27th
