Peter looking good for weekend play in Bogota
Written by Bruce Young
Saturday, 11 February 2017

Peter looks all but assured of making the cut at the Web.Com Tour's Club Colombia Championship at the Bogota Golf Club, his second round of 70 moving him into a share of 41st position.

Although there are many players still to finish round two, after darkness had brought play to a halt, things would have to change dramatically for Peter to miss out on weekend play.

Those required to return on day three to complete their third rounds will likely get good conditions to do so but a birdie at his final hole on day two should give Peter the buffer he needs.

Peter heads to Central America

Peter's start to the 2017 tournament year was hardly convincing, missing the cut at the Victorian PGA Championship at a golf course where he has often played well but he now has a run under his belt so to speak and as he heads across the Pacific for this week's Club Colombia Championship at the Bogota Country Club in Bogota he is looking for quick improvement.

Peter has a start in the third event of the Web.Com Tour season courtesy of a category which allows three players in the 48 and 49 year old category and who are members of the PGA Tour, even if they do not have status on that tour, to play in events in the final two years ahead of a possible Champions Tour involvement.

Peter is assured of starts at this week's event and at next week's tournament in Panama.

Peter has played both events over the last few years with generally ordinary results although in 2012 he did finish inside the top ten in both tournaments.

Peter is expected to play both events ahead of a return to this part of the world where he will likely tee it up at the ISPS Handa New Zealand Open.

Peter begins his year at Huntingdale Golf Club in Melbourne - Bruce Young

Peter has decided on his early season schedule for 2015, his first event being the Victorian PGA Championship at the Huntingdale Golf Club in Melbourne's sandbelt followed by Web.Com Tour events in Colombia and Panama ahead of a possible start at the Web.Com Tour event in Louisiana.

"It will be good to get in a tournament here before I head off the the US as I need to make a fast start to the Web.Com Tour if I can. I have been working hard on things at the Lakes and the Australian Golf Clubs and feel happy with the way things are progressing.

"After my time in Central America and possibly the USA I will head back home and am playing the New Zealand Open in early March. Those are the events that are locked in at this stage and we shall see what develops from there.

"I am eligible for some European Senior Tour events after July so am very keen on that prospect.

Peter considers options for 2017

As 2016 winds to a close Peter looks ahead to 2017 and considers his schedule.

"I think I am ok for starts in Panama and Colombia on the Web.Com Tour and depending on how I play in those I might try and play in Louisiana then might even try and four spot for the Houston Open but will see how things are going.

"If I play well early then other starts on the Web.Com Tour should also open up.

"I am considering playing the Victorian PGA which finishes the day before I leave for Colombia so that would be a good warm up but will see how things progress between now and then."

Peter has also been made aware that he will have status on the European Senior Tour in 2017 which he would become eligible for when he turns 50 in July. "I haven't thought it through too much at this stage but if there are events that suit schedule-wise then I may well play some events there."

All in all it appears there are several options for Peter to continue playing in 2017.

Peter has finished 40th at the Australian PGA Championship at RACV Royal Pines, a final round of 74 not quite what he was hoping for to follow up his impressive 3rd round of 67 on Saturday.

Peter has finished 46th on the 2016 PGA Tour of Australasia's Order of Merit and will look ahead to a return to the Web.Com Tour in 2017 where he retains status courtesy of the category given to former PGA Tour players in their 48th and 49th years.

Other events early in the New Year such as the Victorian Open and the Victorian PGA Championship may also be on his  schedule but he will consider his options over the Xmas and New Year period.
