Solid return for Peter at NSW Open

Given that it had been the best part of three months since Peter played a competitve event, his return to tournament golf at the Mazda NSW Open at Stonecutters Ridge west of Sydney this week was perhaps about what could be expected. There were both good and not so good aspects of the week.

Peter  finished 27th in the PGA Tour of Australasia event after a good start early in the week had him well enough positioned heading into the weekend.

His opening two rounds of 69 had him not too far from the lead but as his week wore on the scoring became less competitive although importantly for what lies ahead over the next few weeks he now has that run behind him and will be the better for it at this week's Bet Easy Masters at the Metropolitan Golf Club in Melbourne's sanbelt.

Late rally helps Peter's cause at NSW Open

Yesterday it was the last few holes of his opening round that put a dent in Peter's scorecard at the Mazda NSW Open, today it was the last few holes that save his round.

Admittedly they were different holes as he started at the 1st hole today but three late birdies have kept Peter's hopes alive of contending over the weekend at the NSW Open at the Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club.

Today Peter was just treading water on a golf course where low scoring has been the order of the week to date but his late burst gave him hope for the weekend after he had left the golf course on day one mad at letting a good round slip from his grasp over the closing three holes.

At that point he was 6 under for the day through 15 but a double bogey and a bogey late in the round cost him dearly and today his strong finish has aided his cause.

Peter trails fellow Web.Com Tour player, James Nitties, by six shots and finds himself in a share of 11th position.

Peter keen to get back to tournament golf

After nearly three months away from tournament golf Peter plays this week's New South Wales Open at the Greg Norman designed Stone Cutters Ridge in Sydney's west.

Having addressed family issues over recent weeks Peter is looking forward to returning to tournament golf but is aware that things might be a little rusty early one.

"Yes I am looking forward to getting back but a lack of tournament play will count against me although to be honest I am not really sure how it will go," said Peter today.

"I have been practising at the Lakes but there is nothing like playing tournaments to get sharp again.

"I have several events in succession to hopefully build some consistency over the next few weeks as I intend playing the Masters, the Australian Open and the Australian PGA Championship this summer."

Peter has previously won all of the four events he will play before Xmas

After initially planning to play the early events on the PGA Tour of Australasia's summer schedule, Peter has made the decision to stay in Sydney to attend to family issues before heading playing the Australian Masters, the Australian Open and the Australian PGA Championship.

"I have been flat out attending to some family matters so there has not been a lot of time to get my game in shape but hopefully things can free up over the next few weeks and that I will be at least a little prepared to play the big events.

"I was looking forward to playing in WA but that is just the way it is at present.

"I am really looking forward to playing again and playing the Australan summer without having to worry about Tour Schools or anything like that."

Peter is back in Australia after a season on the Web.Com Tour that has left him without any status for 2014.

He has the option of heading back to the Web.Com Tour School but has instead decided to focus his attention on playing the Australasian events this summer which begin with the two Tier 2 events in Western Australia and the Perth International.

He will then play the three flagship events of the summer at The Talisker Masters, the Australian Open and the Australian PGA Championship all of which he has won previously.  In addition there are events such as the NSW Open and NSW PGA Championships to complete what is shaping as a busy schedule.

"It has been a tough year but to be honest I don't feel I have played anywhere nearly as bad as the results would suggest," said Peter. "I now have to regroup and am actually looking to play with a ceratin level of continuity over the next few months. Hopefully I can get myself back into contention on occasions."
